My research, practice and outreach has focused on enhancing the well-being of grandfamilies, or families in which grandparents are raising their grandchildren. Grounded in family systems and family resilience perspectives, I study 1) the intersection of relational processes and grandparent and grandchild functioning, 2) family-based practice strategies and interventions designed to improve grandfamily physical and mental health, and 3) the role of larger social structures (e.g., federal and state policies, service practices) in shaping grandfamilies' needs and well-being.
