Ashley Shew Headshot

My research sits at the intersection of biotech ethics, philosophy of technology, and disability studies. I have a wide range of humanities-based projects that center the experiences and narratives of disabled people, and I work in a number of areas with this approach, including with a larger team in developing measures of structural ableism toward health equity, research with construction engineers on building design and emergency planning, creative scholarship and advocacy about disabled people in outer space (and in all spaces), and projects to celebrate and honor disabled expertise. I coordinate the university's graduate bioethics certificate. I'm interested in inclusive world-building with a recognition that the future is disabled and that we live in (and must learn to work with) disabled ecologies.
