As the Assistant Director of the Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (CBHDS), I am a collaborative biostatistician by training and practice and serve as a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech. I work alongside a diverse team of collaborative biostatisticians, statistical programmers, data scientists, epidemiologists, bioinformaticians, and other quantitative scientists. The mission of CBHDS is to advance excellence in Virginia Tech's health- and medically-related research portfolio by fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across biostatistics, data science, health analytics, computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, biology, database management and integration, project coordination, clinical practice, health economics, translation, and public policy.
To achieve this mission, CBHDS aims to:
1) Identify, integrate, and coordinate expertise and resources in biostatistics, statistics, health analytics, data science, epidemiology, data management, informatics, health economics, and related fields to serve as a central support hub for health- and medically-related research.
2) Promote awareness and application of contemporary analytic methods in health- and medically-related research projects.
3) Provide training and mentorship to statisticians, analysts, and data scientists, emphasizing effective communication and collaboration with biomedical and health researchers.
4) Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance understanding of disease etiologies, develop effective treatment and prevention strategies, and improve mental health, physical health, and quality of life.
