Bernice Owusu-Brown Headshot

My research focuses on the intersection of gender, health, and economic development, with a particular emphasis on the economic and health impacts of intimate partner violence (IPV) and the mitigating effect of social and economic policies. My work adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from economics, gender studies, sociology, and public health to explore the complex relationships between these fields. My multidisciplinary approach aligns with the integrated nature of the whole-health goal. By examining the interplay between gender, health, and economic development,I am contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of well-being that goes beyond traditional siloed approaches. The emphasis on social and economic policies as mitigating factors for IPV ties in with the proactive model of disease prevention. By identifying policy interventions that can reduce IPV, I am contributing to preventative strategies that can improve individual and community well-being before health issues arise. My focus on the economic impacts of IPV also addresses the broader concept of well-being beyond just physical health, encompassing financial security and economic opportunity as key components of overall wellness.
